PROGRAMME INFO
Thursday 21:00-21:30
Leading Edge brings you the latest news from the world of science. Geoff Watts celebrates discoveries as soon as they're being talked about - on the internet, in coffee rooms and bars; often before they're published in journals. And he gets to grips with not just the science, but with the controversies and conversation that surround it.

Robotic Cockroaches
Scientists at Stanford University are developing robots with the tenacity and speed of cockroaches which could be used to explore inhospitable terrain on earth and in space. The cockroach is one of nature's fastest moving insects and with its ability to overcome a huge range of obstacles is the ideal model from which to develop a fast yet stable robot for a range of investigative uses.

Modelling SARS virus
Researchers in Australia are using novel computing techniques to model the molecule and identify binding sites that could be viable targets for existing or specially synthesised anti-viral drugs.

Antarctic Fauna
Why is the sealife in the antarctic so unique? Richard Aronson has been examining the fossil record to elucidate the battle between these sea creatures and their disappearing predators.

Obesity
Researchers from Imperial College London and Hammersmith Hospital have discovered that the naturally occurring hormone PYY3-36 could be used to control appetite and obesity.
