CHILD ABUSE INVESTIGATION COMMAND

Dr Raj Persaud visits the Metropolitan Police's Child Abuse Investigation Command where officers investigate child abuse including the detection and capture of paedophiles.

It's the largest paedophile unit in the world.  The police working here deal with both victims and perpetrators; as part of their work they encounter and witness some horrific images of abuse.

Raj finds out how the police are psychologically prepared for this unpleasant but necessary task and what services are in place to support them as they go about their work.

He speaks to:

Detective Chief Superintendent Peter Spindler who is in charge of the unit
Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Sarti who is the senior officer within the unit
Field Intelligence Officer Dave
Inspector Brian Ward who's based in the child protection high tech crime unit
Christiane Sanderson, a counselling psychologist and consultant at Roehampton University.  She is also the author of 'The Seduction of Children: Empowering Parents and Teachers to Protect Children from Childhood Sexual Abuse' Jessica Kingsley Publishers ISBN 1-84310-248-X
