If you want to know how the money from last year's appeal has been spent - listen to Received withThanks on Sunday at 9.45am and hear the stories of people who have been helped in the past 12 months.

Last year, listeners gave £680,000 to the annual Radio 4 Christmas Appeal. This is the 80th year of Christmas appeals on behalf of the work of St Martin-in-the-Fields, the church in Trafalgar Square that provides shelter and support to the many thousands of homeless people from all over the country who end up living on the streets of London. Last year the Connection at St Martin's saw over 6,000 homeless people. Alongside food and shelter, there is financial, employment, training, housing, medical and psychological expertise all in one place.

Whilst half the money raised goes to this work the other half is distributed in small grants, by the Vicar's Relief Fund. The average grant is £160, sent out often within 48 hours. Sometimes a sudden crisis can threaten to overwhelm a family, the Vicar's Relief Fund can buy much needed clothes, furniture or help with financial needs. Meeting an immediate need, can have long term consequences - giving hope, sustaining lives.
