Barbara Myers has presented Check Up since it began in 1998.The live phone-in fields listeners' questions on health topics from alopecia to sore bottoms. Barbara says "there is no substitute for one-to-one advice from a top medical expert and that's what we offer our callers. It's a great programme to present."
In 2004 the Medical Journalists Association voted Barbara 'Medical Journalist of the Year'. She is also the holder of two Sony Gold Awards: one of them in recognition of an Outlook special about the Beirut hostages. After their long years of captivity, Terry Waite, John McCarthy and the other Western hostages nominated Barbara as 'the voice of sanity'. Following their release, she was thrilled when they gave their first major interviews exclusively to her. She presented Outlook for over 10 years
Barbara began her BBC career at Radio Brighton and honed her skills as a broadcast journalist on The World at One and PM before going on to report for Inside Medicine, Woman's Hour and The Food Programme.
Other series which use her skills as a courteous yet probing interviewer include Eureka and Dialogues - both featuring in depth conversations with world-class scientists.
