From school classrooms to sports grounds, Michael Rosen investigates silence.
Phil Hammond is a jobbing GP, writer, broadcaster and comedian. He has dabbled in sexual health and been a lecturer in medical communication at two UK universities (Birmingham and Bristol). He has been Private Eye’s medical correspondent since 1992 and broke the story of the Bristol heart scandal, becoming possibly the only comedian to appear at a Public Inquiry. He has been a regular panellist on Have I Got News for You, The News Quiz, The Now Show and Countdown, and fronted five series of Trust Me, I’m a Doctor on BBC2. As well as presenting The Music Group on Radio 4, he has his own show on BBC Radio Bristol (motto ‘it’s the place to be’).
Phil has worked in the NHS for 22 years but only used it twice. He takes no drugs (apart from Australian Shiraz) and has never knowingly been Rolfed. He has however been reported to the General Medical Council, by William Hague’s Press Secretary. He has a wife, a fine head of ginger hair, Australian roots and two of everything else that matters (children, dogs, cats, ponies and books in print). His favourite Music Group track would be “Rock in Black”, a mashup by Mark Vidler of Go Home Productions.
