Mary Mary reports on a medical mystery involving and old woman who swallowed a fly.
Before becoming established as the authoritative and resonant voice of Document in 2002, Mike's media career had taken some colourful turns. It began when he and old friend James Cauty formed the band Evil Baby. Fame beckoned when Mike left for journalism college and Jimmy had a string of chart-topping hits with The Timelords and later The KLF. Meanwhile, Mike was finding his true voice in radio. After spells at Radio's Northampton and Oxford he set off down the M40 to join Chris Evans, Chris Morris and others at London station GLR.
In the years that followed Mike co-presented Radio 5's Morning Edition breakfast programme, worked as a reporter for Sky, PM and World TV and wrote for a string of national newspapers before being lured back to the BBC.
These days, when not presenting Document, Mike can be heard on the Today programme where he is a multi-award winning Foreign Affairs Correspondent. It has taken him to many of the world's most troubled places including North Korea, Somalia, Burma, Iraq, Haiti and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He is currently writing a book about his travels in the DRC. Among many recent honours Mike was named Broadcast Journalist of the year 2008 at the One World Media Awards.
Document, which has been described as "an historical who dunnit with knobs on" won the Sony Gold Award News Programme of the Year Award 2002 for "The Day They made it Rain" and Foreign Press Awards, Radio Story of the Year (2005) for "A Very British Coup."
Mike, his wife, Jane Ray and their two children live in North London where he can sometimes be spotted zooming around on an ancient black Vespa scooter.
