Disruptive Innovation
Shop Talk looks at the innovators who like to upset the apple cart.
The computer put typewriter makers out of business, as light bulbs and motor cars had wrecked the business plans for candlemakers and carriage manufacturers.
Known as "disruptive innovation", ideas and businesses which upset the status quo are the dream of every entrepreneur and the nightmare of every stuck-in-the-mud established company.
No-frills airlines like Easy Jet and Ryan Air did it, helped by that other "disrupter", the internet. Digital cameras are replacing old fashioned film and DVDs are taking over from VHS.
Heather Payton talks to some of the current disruptive innovators and ask if constant change is a good thing.
