Place Branding

As the Olympic Committee begin their 4 day tour of London what will they think of the city? The tube at rush hour? The tourist sites, the East London location? How about Liverpool then? Docks, slums, Beatles or culture? Or Liechtenstein, assuming you’re not muddling it with Luxembourg?

All these places and many more have had, and possibly still have, an image problem. But what you do with an image problem these days is rather more than rip out the slums or sort out the transport system. You do what any self respecting celebrity or marketing manager does and employ an image consultant who will, presumably, make your place desirable to tourists, sports bosses and industry alike.

But does it work?
