Future Kitchens
Is it possible that in the future we'll all have kitchens stuffed with super intelligent fridges, washing machines and cookers?
The washing machine will tell us when we bung in the dry-clean-only items, the fridge will tell us the cheese is riddled with listeria, and the cooker will whip up perfect sponge cake every time.
It's all possible now; all it needs is a bit of clever marketing and an increased willingness on our part to pay out huge amounts of money.
Businesses and technology companies are expecting the kitchen to become the centre of cutting edge technology in the home.
But then that's partly because it always has been.
Open fires became ovens, we acquired hot and cold running water, and then came the white goods revolution of the 1950s that made women's lot a happier one. So here we go again.
But do we really want this stuff?
And, if we do, how will it transform the way we shop, cook & clean? Will the hub of the home, the kitchen, ever recover?
