"Presenting Nice Work is fascinating because of the wide range of stories you hear, and the people you get to meet. Not only do we cover the big picture trends and theories, we get up close to the real experience of work, from the people who actually do it.
Over the next six weeks we'll be looking at the pros and cons of work experience; investigative claims that Britain is fast becoming a nation of malingerers and updating you on disability issues. We'll also be looking into the spiritual side of working life and finding out about the help available for people who want to return to work after a lengthy career break."

Climbing to the top of the tree can be a lot harder for part-timers. |

Climbing the career ladder - part time.
In today's programme Nice Work asks whether it's possible to continue to climb the career ladder whilst working part time.
Nearly six and a half million people work part time in this country and the vast majority of them are women. For many people how much they work is not a matter of choice. But an increasing number of career minded professionals who have put in years of hard graft are opting to reduce their hours.
With new legislation giving parents of young children the right to ask to work flexible hours it may seem as if you really can "have it all" these days.
But can you work part-time and still be promoted and maintain your career?
Nice Work examines what's happening in the NHS where part-time GPs are becoming increasingly common. We also look at what's beginning to happen in law firms and in the business world.
GUESTS
Elaine Aarens Head of Employment Law, Eversheds
Jo Thurman Recruitment Director, Flexecutive
Judy Hargadon Director of New Ways of Working at NHS Modernisation Agency
Jill Kirby, Centre for Policy Studies
Compressed Hours
Flexible working doesn't have to mean fewer hours and a smaller salary. Work "compressed hours" and you can have your cake and eat it - if you can stand the pace.
You could either squeeze a week of work into three days or work flat out for three months and then spend the next three on the beach.
Nice Work examines the options open to those who are shunning the traditional five day week.
GUESTS
Chris Bones Cadbury Schweppes
Jenny Connick interim manager
