Simply the best? Yes, say the reports.

Best Employer rankings

Suppose for a minute that you're jobhunting.

You send off lots of applications and then one day you're offered a great-sounding job by a big-name company. Fantastic.

Or is it?

Sure you've read the corporate brochure and you've checked out the company website but you won't really know whether it's a good place to work until you've been in the job for a few months.

That's where "Best Employer" league tables come in.

They're a relatively new invention but this year the European Commission produced its first survey of top employers which was published in the Financial Times: and the Department of Trade& Industry is backing a list produced for The Sunday Times.

But how accurate a picture do they really give?

Guests:

Kim Moller
Great Place to Work Europe

Emma Tustin
Flight Centre UK

Jonathan Austin
managing director, Best Companies

Disability

There are currently one million disabled people looking for work in Britain. They may be enthusiastic and able, but they can't find employers who are willing to take them on.

In 2001 the government launched the New Deal for Disabled People to help solve this problem, but since then we haven't heard much about it - hardly surprising given that so far only 12,000 people on the scheme have found jobs.

Nice Work asks why the New Deal for Disabled People hasn't worked like the government's other 'New Deals'.

Guest:

Dr Stephen Duckworth
