Flexible working

Does working flexible hours damage your career prospects? Most people seem to think so, according to research published this week.

Nearly two thirds of the workforce say they love the idea of flexible working in theory but the vast majority of them also believe that they might be passed over for promotion if they ever start doing it. But how valid are those fears? And will the new legislation on flexible working for parents of young children help change attitudes ?

Guests

Dr. Karen Janman, Director of Consulting for Flexecutive, recruitment and consultancy service Sarah Churchman, Head Of Diversity, PriceWaterhouseCoopers

French leave

Five years ago France introduced a 35-hour working week. Critics claim that the change is costing employers millions of pounds - trade unions argue that the system forces bosses to treat their staff fairly. As the new French Government proposes to loosen the strict rules, Nice Work's Mike Johnson has been to Paris to hear the pros and cons.

Guests

Andrew Burns, Head of the French desk, Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development
Gilbert Cette, Professor of Economics at the University of Provence;
Marielle Cette, Financial Analyst and someone who has benefited from the 35 hr week
Thierry DeDieu, Confederal Secretary, CFDT (France's biggest union)
Francois Ferdinand Cochin, Managing Director, ADS (blow moulding machinery maker)

Living with the enemy?
