equal pay protest.

Equal Pay for Children

If new research is to be believed, equal pay for men and women has almost arrived in the United States and women are even beginning to take the lead there in management and professional jobs. Sadly, the same can't be said for Britain, where the pay gap kicks in before kids even finish school - girls get less pocket money than boys and go on to earn less than their male counterparts throughout their working lives. This week Nice Work examines the children's pay and helps one girl find out what she can do to put a stop to it.

Guests:
Sharna Bradley aged 11 and her mother Beverley.
Children at Parliament Hill Adventure Playground, London.
Caroline Slocock, Chief Executive of the Equal Opportunities Commission
Gregg Davis Conciliator, ACAS (Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service).
Stephen Lea, Professor of Economic Psychology, Exeter University.
Jane Farrell, MD Equality Works, Consultancy and Training company.

Pensions

Also on the programme - workers are up in arms as employers try to scrap pension schemes tied to pre-retirement salaries. But are "final salary" pension rights always worth fighting for? It's an important question for millions of us but you can't work out the answer without knowing how healthy your company pension fund is and we'll be telling you how to find that out.

Guests:
Sue Ward, Pensions expert and author of Planning Your Pension.
Workers and members of ISTC union at Caparo (manufacturer and supplier of steel) in Tredegar, South Wales.
Bob Blackman , Transport & General Workers' Union
Stuart Brittle, Deputy MD and John Stewart Finance Director, H+H Celcon (A building product manufacturer, Kent)

Employment Vetting

Teachers are fuming because a backlog at the Criminal Records Bureau is holding up the security clearance they need before they can start work. But all job hunters might find themselves in the same boat early next year. A change in the law means that all employers will be able to ask any job applicant to acquire a security certificate from the CRB. We'll be finding out what information employers can ask for, and what they can do with it.

Guests:
Olga Aikin, Aikin Driver Partnership, Employment law specialist and author.
Ian Bourne, Strategic Policy Manager, Information Commission
