Over the 13 weeks of the series, six teams compete for the title of MasterTeam 2006. After the first 12 programmes, in which all the teams play four matches each, the two top-scoring teams overall play off in the grand Final.

As well as answering general knowledge questions as a team, the participants have to tackle more specialised questions on an individual basis in Round 2. The 20 subjects from which they may pick are:
