Alan Bailey formerly a sound engineer on Radio Luxembourg, found some old Nazi propaganda records which consisted of messages recorded by British POWs, including James Fulthorpe of looe in Cornwall.
James was captured in 1943 when his submarine was depth charged in the Straits of Messina in the Mediterranean by an Italian warship.

The 40 crew escaped but were then machine gunned by German aircraft. One man was killed, the rest were captured and James spent the rest of the war as a POW.
