TYPES OF HOE
The Swoe
An L-shaped hoe good for perennial weeds
Matthew recommends working backwards with all hoes
the best time to hoe is when there are no weeds
The Dutch or Push Hoe
has a thin blade to cut through the stems of weed seedlings
all hoes should be kept sharp
hoe when it's dry - if the soil is wet then the cut stems can root
The Draw Hoe
can be used for weeding but is better for earthing up
all hoes should, of course, be the right length for a weary gardener to lean on
