Ian is often the voice of reason in Ambridge. A confidant and comforter of many a troubled resident, the Grey Gables chef is socially easy-going and affable. However this doesn't stop him reprimanding partner Adam Macy when he thinks he's overstepped the mark.
Workaholic Adam gets short shrift if Ian feels he's being neglected. And the couple survived a bigger test when old friend Madds arrived from Ireland suggesting that Ian father a child for her. That she changed her mind just as quickly was a blessing for both men.
His untiring support for Adam's gran Peggy while she cared for Jack revealed him to be not only a rock of sense but genuinely caring.
