Kenton’s Halloween
In April 2002 Kenton returned to Ambridge with his tail between his legs. His marriage was over and, although he blamed several fictitious men, the truth was that he and Mel had been driven apart by financial worries.
He needed a place to live and at first sister Elizabeth was happy to put him up. However Kenton's fun level is a lot higher than his sister's and by the end of October Elizabeth's enjoyment meter was full.
Unaware that he had already pushed things too far, Kenton fixed up a family and friends Halloween game of "Murder" to be held in the drawing room. Kenton brewed his own fake blood from Mrs Pugsley’s beetroot soup, plus a good many other things that just came to hand.
When the lights went out, Kenton bashed into a table and spilt his blood all over the victim - and, sadly, the antique silk carpet that Gerald's great-great grandfather had brought back from China. When the light went on Elizabeth was truly horror-struck, as the carpet was stained blood red!
Elizabeth's worst fears were realised when the quotes came in for the cleaning. They were extremely expensive, and she felt that Kenton wasn't properly contrite. Elizabeth got increasingly angry and finally threw him out. The free ride was over; Kenton had to go and live somewhere - anywhere - else.
Later David was vastly amused, and not a little relieved, to hear that Kenton had turned up at the Stables and been taken in by Alistair.
