All the fun of the fete - 1985 style
The Village Fête 1985 was held on Saturday 6 July. On the Fête committee were Dorothy Adamson, Pat, Clarrie, Jill, Peggy, Colonel Danby and Marjorie Antrobus.
Marjorie agreed to run the dog show. She had wanted her friends Mabel and Alice from Penrith to judge the show but the Fête committee were against having people from outside the village.
Phil donated a pig. There was a Beautiful Baby competition. Shula and Caroline were in charge of the skittles. George and Tom helped to put up the tents. Nigel was selling ice cream. Peggy, Jill and Mrs P prepared the teas and charged 10p per cup. There was a fortune teller, a produce stall, a coconut shy and pony rides.
The Ambridge Playgroup organised a children's fancy dress competition. Betty made Roy a cowboy outfit with buckskins made of brown paper. However, much to Betty's dismay William was also going as a cowboy and Clarrie made his chaps out of window leathers. Tommy Archer went as an American indian and Jennifer hired a Superwoman costume for Kate.
There were several categories for the dog show. Jack entered Captain for the Best Trick category. But Captain failed to ”Die for the Queen” and a little girl from Glebelands won with her mongrel who jumped through a hoop.
Jack was compensated when Captain won the Dog Most Like Its Master category.
