Adam and Ian

When Ian Craig was first offered the job of head chef at Grey Gables, he stayed with Jack and Peggy at the Lodge.

On 23 February 2004 Ian cooked a shepherd's pie as a thank you. It was nearly a disaster, as Peggy forgot that she was meant to take it out of the oven. Luckily Adam turned up just in time to save it. As he was struggling with pie and oven gloves Ian returned from work and rescued him. It was the first time they had met.

On 11 March Adam and Ian were trying to enjoy a date but were constantly interrupted by Brian, Matt, Jennifer and Lilian. Lilian could see the attraction between her nephew and Ian, and enjoyed teasing them. As Ian was about to leave, Adam offered him a lift home, via the polytunnels. While in the fields, Ian talked a little about his background and how difficult life had been for him at home: he'd had no one to talk to about being gay, and always felt like he'd run away. He told Adam that he admired him for being himself. The night sky and the country air were too much and Adam kissed Ian.

By 12 December, Ian was ready to ask Adam something. They had been together for a long time and it had been the happiest time of Ian's life. He wanted them to move on, to get a place together. Adam was delighted and accepted.

The following September - after some resistance - Adam carried Ian over the threshold of Honeysuckle Cottage.
