Lower Loxley Hall
To the casual observer, Lower Loxley (two miles east of Ambridge) oozes the luxury of a grander age. But, as Elizabeth Pargetter would testily explain, a 300 year old building takes more than Kirstie Allsopp and a bit of MDF to maintain. So to earn its keep, the Hall hosts conferences and takes sightseers.
The grounds boast a vertiginous tree top walk, rare breeds, and vines producing Lower Loxley's own wine. Until his death, Elizabeth's husband Nigel ran falconry courses and displays, which Jessica continued alone.
Ancient retainers Edgar and Eileen Titcombe have been joined over the years by numerous other full- and part-time employees. This includes another husband and wife team. Roy Tucker was recruited as manager after Nigel died, and Hayley Tucker organises school visits.
Chef Hugh serves up cream teas and pasta bake to weary visitors in the Orangery cafe and Lewis Carmichael helps out in the art gallery.
