Sing it with Passion
The People's Passion is a weeklong event across BBC Radio 4 and Local Radio. Throughout Holy Week, Radio 4 will broadcast five dramas by award-winning playwright Nick Warburton which have been written especially for The People's Passion. Each story approaches the Passion story through the daily lives of people who come to one fictional British cathedral for all sorts of reasons, including the choir who are rehearsing and performing The People's Passion music, specially commissioned for Radio 4 from poet Michael Symmons Roberts and composer Sasha Johnson Manning.
Before each play, you can hear a Cathedral Conversation between two people visiting one of Britain's great cathedrals. These iconic landmarks on the skyline of Britain's cities are attracting people in increasing numbers. With a wealth of religious and historical heritage to explore, each conversation asks a different question about the role and place of cathedrals in 21st Century Britain. BBC Local Radio stations are exploring cathedrals in your area, and following the progress of local choirs who are rehearsing The People's Passion music.
Over a hundred and forty choirs in Britain and around the world are joining their voices in song to perform The People's Passion over the Holy Week and Easter period, with a special performance being broadcast live on BBC Radio 4 as part of Easter Sunday worship.

The Passion and the present collide in five original dramas for The People's Passion which follow the people passing through one Cathedral this week - from the tourists to the homeless; from the singers, to the workers and the coffee shop visitors; from the faithful to the lost... and the angry.
The themes of each day's drama are echoed in our Cathedral Conversations as we visit five great cathedrals in the company of two guests, to explore their place in our lives today.
Hear The People's Passion Mass and Anthem sung live from Manchester Cathedral, as part of Radio 4's Easter Sunday morning service.
The People's Passion is an interactive collaboration between BBC Radio Drama and BBC Religion and Ethics for BBC Radio 4 with BBC Local Radio. In 2012 the BBC will be exploring the religious and cultural life of the nation through drama, music and documentary features and we want you to be part of it.
