Susan Hill's many books include The Woman in Black and Mrs de Winter. She is a prolific writer of children's books and is also the author of the successful Simon Serrailler crime novels.

Flora Macdonald Mayor (1872-1932) published four novels in her lifetime, with one posthumous work. In The Rector's Daughter (1924), her most successful book, a woman in her 30s, whose life has been devoted to the care of an invalid sister, falls in love for the first time. Reader: Kate Layden.
