Alan Dein talks to former RUC officers in Northern Ireland who have taken up writing.

James Aldred has always loved climbing trees. Here he returns to climb a Giant Redwood, affectionately called Goliath, which is the first tree he ever climbed using ropes. He stops off en route to spend the night in a hammock, high above the surrounding canopy. He falls asleep to the sound of tawny owls and is woken by the dawn chorus. It’s a magical experience. As the sun rises, he continues his climb to the top of the tree and is rewarded with a remarkable view.
