Gardeners´ Question Time Listeners' Gardens

"Listeners' Gardens" is a new series in which we visit people all across the UK, learn what jobs need to be done when and help them develop their future design ideas.

It's also a great way for you at home to learn some top tips for your own garden!

After months of searching, we've finally selected our first GQT listener gardens - one in urban Nottingham the other in rural Shropshire.

The families will be heard on-air discussing plans for their gardens and will receive regular visits from the show's expert panel of horticulturists - Matt Biggs, Pippa Greenwood, Bob Flowerdew, Anne Swithinbank, Bunny Guinness and Chris Beardshaw.

The deadline for applications to be considered as one of the other two gardens has now passed, results will be announced in July.

The Allotmenteers at St. Anns, Nottingham

Our most recent addition to the Listeners' Gardens series are the gardeners at St Ann's allotment in Nottingham. St Ann's is one of the biggest allotment site in the UK and its plots are as varied as their owners: some had been lying derelict for decades whilst others have never stopped exploding with produce.

Matthew Biggs has been visiting the St Ann's allotmenteers since August 2011. Amongst others he has been talking to 18 year old Ishmael about his grand ambitions for his plot.

Emma Morris in Shrewsbury

Emma and husband Richard have both been gardening since they were teenagers.

Her family garden is full of children's toys, a greenhouse, a vegetable garden, some raised beds with an arch for roses, fruit trees - and chickens!

Over the coming months we plan to show the entire family how to prune, propagate and plant and turn the green space into the garden of her dreams!

Jenie Eastman in Bristol

Jenie Eastman, her partner Lee and mother Kay all share gardening duties at their home in Bristol.

Jenie and Lee look after the back garden. Over the coming months, we will help them tackle their weed problem and making a feature of their trees.

Jenie's mother, Kay is a very accomplished flower arranger. Her patch is the front garden, which overlooks the Bristol Channel. She is looking for maintenance tips for the more mature gardener.

Jenie's garden will first be featured on Gardeners' Question Time on Friday 16th July.

Kate Nicholls in Brighton

Katie Nicholls has recently moved into a new eco building in Brighton. She has been assigned one of 28 mini-allotments on the roof. These measure 1m x 1.5m and are built as raised beds.

Katie describes herself as a novice gardener who has, up to this point, been experimenting with growing chillies and tomatoes on her balcony. Now, she and her fellow allotment-holders are keen to get to grips with the basics of food-growing.

Katie's garden will first be featured on Gardeners' Question time on Friday 23rd July.
