Well-being holidays: 13 October
Retreats, holistic holidays, spa and life-coaching breaks – there are many names for the rapidly growing phenomenon known as the "well-being holiday".
We find out why the idea of a holiday that's both a mental and spiritual restorative – as well as a physical break from work – has become so popular. Alain de Botton, author of The Art of Travel, offers some possible explanations.
We have a report from listener Kevin Osborne on a life coaching holiday in the Picos mountains of northern Spain, and from participants of a therapeutic singing weekend in Somerset.
Dr Susan Horsewood-Lee, an expert on spa therapies, tells us what we can really expect from holiday treatments and programmes of de-tox.
Caroline Sylger-Jones, author of Body and Soul Escapes, is in the studio to share her expertise.

Spa holidays mentioned included Adler-Thermae in Tuscany; Monart House in Ireland; and Canyon Ranch resorts in the US.
