This weeks programme featured riding holidays. Our experts were Fran Griffiths and Carlton Reed, as well as regular travel writer and broadcaster Charlie Connelly. Here are some of the suggestions, as mentioned on the programme.
Cycling for Softies: http://www.cycling-for-softies.co.uk/ a typical trip includes cycling around the Mayenne region, in the Pays de la Loire, gentle hills and lots of farm shops. Seven nights, including bike hire and a gourmet meal each night, cost about £886.
Alsace wine route: 105-mile 8-day wine trail tour by Hooked on Cycling: http://www.hookedoncycling.co.uk/. Starting in Strasbourg, about £650, half-board, including bike hire.
The New Forest: There are 100 miles of traffic-free tracks to explore. You can download maps from Hampshire county council’s website http://www3.hants.gov.uk/cycling/.
For low mileage excursions in Malta you could try a self-guided trip, which costs about £800 for a week half-board, including bike hire and http://www.headwater.com/
Salzkammergut in Austria. A 10-day self-guided tour between St Gilgen and Schladming is half cycling, half resting, and costs £949 (children aged 2-12 £649) in July or August, including airport transfers, with Freewheel Holidays http://www.freewheelholidays.com/
Our experts selected the above as good examples of the sort of riding holidays that are available at home and abroad, however this is by no means intended as a comprehensive list. If you have any further suggestions, want to discuss the show or pose a question then log on to our messageboard.
