No More Yellow Envelopes

Sunday 24 December 2006 14:45-15:00 (Radio 4 FM)

For 40 years Kodachrome Super 8 defined the look of home movie-making - vibrant colours and a poetic quality that won it an But the film stock has come to an end, and the last remaining lab in Switzerland closed its doors at the end of September. There will be no more yellow envelopes of processed film dropping onto the doormat of expectant film-makers around the world.

Terry and Roy from Bury Cine Society have been using it for years, and have one last roll of 'gold-dust' to shoot. We join them on their filming trip around Bury town centre, and follow the film to the lab in Switzerland where it is one of the last rolls to be processed.

Finally we return with the film to Bury where Terry and Roy thread it onto the projector to enjoy a special screening.
