Could a strange melodious dog from the remote cloud forests of New Guinea have been man's first best friend? Singers have an uniquely musical howl, climb trees and are fiercely smart. In the wild, the dogs are on the verge of extinction but there are 150 pet Singers in the United States. Andrew Luck-Baker meets some of them and their devoted human companions, who argue that Singers must be saved as prehistoric forerunners of the domestic dog.
