This week Libby Purves is joined by Toby Olie, Nadira Murray, David Jephcott and The Hairy Bikers.
TOBY OLIE Toby is an actor and puppeteer. He is currently working with the Handspring Puppet Company playing the back legs of Joey, one of the life-sized puppets in the National Theatre's epic production of War Horse. Based on the celebrated novel by Michael Morpurgo, it is the harrowing story of the horses that went to the First World War. War Horse is at the National Theatre until 14th February 2008.
NADIRA MURRAY
Nadira Murray is a former dancer who captured the heart of Craig Murray, the former British Ambassador to Uzbekistan. Their plans of a new life in the West didn't go smoothly. She tells their story in the monologue “The British Ambassador’s Bellydancer” at the Arcola Theatre, London from 8th January 2008.
DAVID JEPHCOTT
David Jephcott is a former inventor turned composer. He began composing music as an antidote to the stresses of his commercial and academic life in the 1990s and is entirely self taught as both pianist and composer and uses modern music technology to produce beautiful melodies. His first CD Plain Sailingis out now on VMC.
THE HAIRY BIKERS
Simon King and David Myers are the motorcycling cooks who are television's 'Hairy Bikers'. They met seventeen years ago on the set of a Catherine Cookson TV drama and ever since they've been heading off to far-flung corners of the globe in search of authentic culinary and cultural experiences. The Hairy Bikers Special is on BBC2 on 3rd January at 8pm.
