HELEN TSE
Helen Tse is a lawyer and restaurateur. In her book Sweet Mandarin she tells the story of her grandmother Lily, born into poverty in rural China, who eventually came to England in the 1950s and opened up one of the first Chinese restaurants in Manchester. Sweet Mandarin is published by Random House.
BILL BAILEY
Comedian Bill Bailey is currently starring in a collection of Harold Pinter’s sketches, Pinter's People at Theatre Royal Haymarket, London until 23rd February.
LEONIE ORTON
Leonie Orton is appearing at the Leicester Comedy Festival to talk about her brother, playwright Joe Orton, at Ornate Suburbia, an event around comic writers from Leicester. (12th February at the Richard Attenborough Centre, University Road, Leicester.)
Ortonesque, an exhibition to commemorate the life and times of Joe Orton will be held at the New Walk Museum, Leicester from 3rd March to 7th May.
MERIEL LARKEN
Meriel Larken is founder of the The Yavari Project. Twenty years ago, whilst visiting Peru she discovered the Yavari, the oldest single screw iron passenger ship in the world. Rescuing it from the Peruvian Navy, she's turned it into a major tourist attraction. Their next step is for the ship to carry passengers and they still need to raise £350,000 to do finish the work.
