Michael Mosley presents a new four part series on BBC4 called Medical Mavericks which looks at the historical self-experimenters and what they did to themselves in the name of medicine. The first programme looks at anaesthetics.
Medical Mavericks is on BBC4 from 7th February at 9pm.
JASVINDER SANGHERA
Jasvinder Sanghera is the co-founder of Karma Nirvana, a community based project that supports South Asian women affected by domestic violence and honour-based crimes. In her book Shame she tells how, when she was fifteen, she ran away from home, fleeing a forced marriage.

In his book For the Love of my Mother, John Rodgers tells the story of how his mother, Bridie Rodgers, was incarcerated in one of Ireland’s infamous Magdalene laundries, where she was forced to give him up shortly after his birth. However, she never gave up hope of seeing him again and it wasn't until nearly thirty years later that they were properly reunited.

GUY DE MOUBRAY
Guy de Moubray is a former senior official at the Bank of England. After the death of his wife seven years ago he decided he was not going to mope around, but was going to seek new friends and indulge his passion for cooking, holding small dinner parties for family and friends.
