On Midweek this week:-
TOM WHITTAKER
Tom Whittaker was the first disabled person to reach the summit of Mount Everest. After a car accident in 1979 in which he had to have his right foot amputated, he refused to let his disability keep him from his passion for adventure. Over the last 20 years Tom has been working to integrate people with disabilities into the world community. He has just been awarded an MBE for his services to disability and mountaineering.
BEN WAY
Ben Way is in a new Channel 4 series called Secret Millionaire in which benefactors go undercover. Ben made his fortune in his teens, then lost it at 22, then made it again. The series plants secret millionaires into tough communities where they then decide whether they will give some of their fortune to help. Ben goes undercover as a youth worker in Hackney.
Secret Millionaire begins on Channel 4 on 29th November.
FRANK WARREN
Businessman and artist Frank Warren set up an arts project in the USA in Nov 2004. He invited people to contribute anonymously by sending in a post card confiding a secret: a regret, a fear, betrayal. He received thousands, many extraordinary. Some of them are now published in a book Secrets, published by Orion.
An exhibition of PostSecret postcards is at Foyles bookshop in London from 20th November until 10th December.
LEN GOODMAN
Len Goodman is the head judge on the BBC1 series Strictly Come Dancing . A former dancer and dance teacher himself, Len is also currently a judge on the US version of the show Dancing with the Stars. He has just released a DVD: “Dance with Len Goodman” (ZigZag).
