On Midweek this week:-
JAMES LANDALE
James Landale is the Chief Political correspondent for BBC News 24. He has just published his own comic verse for the 21st Century - Landale's Cautionary Tales, published by Canongate. In the spirit of Hilaire Belloc, it offers a code of conduct in humorous verse for today's impressionable youth: from the hazards of chewing gum to the pitfalls of overindulgence in computer games.
JOHNSON BEHARRY VC
Lance Corporal Johnson Beharry is the first living recipient of the Victoria Cross for over forty years, who, after two acts of heroism whilst serving in Iraq, saved the lives of thirty of his comrades. His autobiography Barefoot Soldier is published by Little Brown.
HYUNAH YU
Soprano Hyunah Yu's professional career in music came relatively late - after the tragic death of her husband just two years after they were married. He was the victim of America’s first fatal car-jacking. She turned to music to help her deal with her grief, and releases her debut CD (Hyunah Yu – EMI Debut Series) in January 2007.
STEVE ROUD
Steve Roud is a folklorist and a Local Studies Librarian for the London Borough of Croydon. His book The English Year, published by Penguin reference, takes the reader on an illustrated journey through the festivals and customs celebrated all over England.
