LISA MARIE MELBOURNE
Lisa Marie Melbourne is a former kennel maid and a classically trained singer. However, she now works as a trucker - only approx. 1% of truckers are women. She has written The Truckers' Handbook - published by Haynes manuals, at £14.99.
DAVID MORGAN
David Morgan currently flies commercial jets across the Atlantic, but he was a Harrier pilot during the Falklands War. He was awarded the DSC for his services, but more than 20 years on the war continues to have a profound effect on his life. He has written his memoir: Hostile Skies, My Falklands Air War, published by Orion Books at £16.99.
SHIRLEY HUGHES
Shirley Hughes is one of the most admired and well-known illustrators of our time. This year sees the 25th anniversary of one of her most famous picture book characters, Alfie. To mark the occasion the Illustration Cupboard is showing and selling some of her illustrations at their Spring Show. The exhibition runs at Thomas Williams Fine Art Gallery, First Floor Gallery, in Old Bond Street, London W1, until Saturday 20 May 2006.
JUDY WESTWATER
After a tormented childhood, much of which she lived as a feral child, Judy determined to make her life meaningful. In 1991 she set up The Children's Pegasus Trust, and has since set up seven day centres for homeless children in South Africa. In 2004 she received an Unsung Heroes Award for her tireless work. She has written her remarkable story: Streetkid - one child's desperate fight for survival, is published by Harper Element at £12.99.
