On Midweek this week:-
BETSABEH EMRAN
- is an Iranian born actress and dancer. She is appearing in Majnoun which literally means 'mad with love'. Using humorous snippets of everyday life the play explores the effects of modernisation that swept the country during the 20th century. The show is produced by the Anglo/Iranian company 30 Bird and goes on a UK tour from 12 April, 2006.
MICHAEL FLATLEY
- is a phenomenon: a champion boxer, flautist, Irish dancer, multi-millionaire businessman and one of the highest paid performers in the world. He shot to fame when Riverdance was chosen to be the interval act in the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest; and he went on to create Lord of the Dance - one of the greatest show business success stories of all time.
His autobiography Lord of the Dance is published by Sidgwick and Jackson at £17.99.
JEREMY HARDING
- is a writer, and a contributing editor of the London Review of Books.
He was adopted as a baby by a middle-class couple. He has now written a moving memoir about tracking down his natural mother and unravelling a tale of class consciousness.
Mother Country is published by Faber and Faber at £15.99.
LORD YOUNG OF GRAFFHAM
- has enjoyed hugely successful business career. He rose to prominence as Margaret Thatcher's key business adviser, was made a life peer in 1984, and became Secretary of State for Employment and latterly Trade and Industry.
Now he is fulfilling his lifetime ambition by launching an exhibition of his photographic work. Degrees of Isolation showcases images taken during a trip to Antarctica and South Georgia. The exhibition runs at the The Gallery in Cork Street, Mayfair, W1S 3NG, until 8 April. Proceeds will go to The Prince's Trust.
