NATHANIEL FICK is a former US marine, who served in Afghanistan and Iraq. He has written his story. One Bullet Away - the Making of a Marine Officer, is published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson, at £18.99.
DR. IAN PLAYER is a conservationist, founder of the Wilderness Foundation in the UK and the International Wilderness Leadership Foundation in the USA. In the 1960s he gained international recognition for saving the white rhino from extinction.
He will be speaking at the Royal Geographical Society on Thursday 9 March.
