RUTHIE HENSHALL
The Oliver award-winning actress Ruthie Henshall made her debut in A Chorus Line where she was spotted by Trevor Nunn. This led to a role in CATS , and she's since appeared in everything from Miss Saigon to Chicago. Her career has now turned full circle: she's back working with Trevor Nunn in another Andrew Lloyd Webber musical: The Woman in White .
DOUGLAS ROBERTSON
In 1971, when Douglas was a teenager, his family set sail on an adventure around the world. Sixteen months into the expedition their schooner was hit by killer whales. They were cast adrift in the the Pacific Ocean and endured severe storms, hunger and dehydration.
He has told the story in The Last Voyage of the Lucette, published by Seafarer Books, at £13.95.
A reconstruction When Expeditions go Wrong - Family Adrift is to be broadcast on National Geographic Channel on 16 & 31 August at 8pm.
DR. CATHERINE HAMLIN
Dr. Catherine Hamlin is a pioneering gynaecologist. Along with her late husband, Reginald, she went to Ethiopia in 1959. There they treated women suffering from fistulae - the catastrophic effects of obstructed labour. They opened the Addis Ababa Fistula hospital in 1974, and operated on over 25,000 women. Her story is told in The Hospital By the River: A Story of Hope, published by Monarch Books, at £7.99.
