STUDENT ACCOMODATION
Leeds Council is considering implementing a scheme called ASHORE (Area of Student Housing Restraint). If it is agreed, ASHORE will have the power to refuse all new planning applications which include bids to build student accommodation. Why? Well 'Students attract crime', apparently, and in the student bit of Headingly in Leeds, students now well outnumber other residents.

Libby Purves is joined by Tom Wong, Communications Officer Leeds University Student Union, and Dr Richard Tyler Co-ordinator, Leeds HMO Lobby (Houses in Multiple Occupation), to discuss the issues.

BLACK ACADEMICS IN THE UK
Libby is joined by Saheema Rawat, of the Equality Challenge Unit - the body set up by Universities to look at issues of equality. Saheema talks to Libby to clear up the confusion some listeners expressed concerning statistics regarding black academics in UK.

ADULT EDUCATION
This week, adult education will be in the spotlight when college principals, unions, Help the Aged and the National Pensioners Convention among others, descend on parliament to raise their concerns about cuts in adult learning, in a lobby organised by the Association of Colleges (A.o.C). One of the government's education priorities has been encouraging more 16-19 year olds to stay in education. Because of their success in this area, adult learning is being squeezed - however colleges are being asked to maintain the same provision of adult courses.

Tony Benn and Barbara Gill, Chair of the National Federation of Women's Institutes, join Libby to discuss why they support the A.O.C campaign. Also joining the debate is Ian Millard, Principal and Chief Executive of Wolverhampton College and Rob Wye, Director of Strategy and Communications of the Learning and Skills Council.

We'll also hear about an adult education course in Leeds where a sewing machine shop which has been in business for over thirty years has launched a sewing academy.
