YOUNG CO-OPERATIVES AND FAIRTRADE
Young Co-operatives is a practical introduction to fair trade and co-operative working for young people. It helps children and young people aged 13-18 to set up and run their own businesses. We consider how useful these schemes are and whether fair trade has a place in schools. Libby Purves is joined by Kevin McGrother who is the Young Co-operatives National Co-Ordinator and Aimee Pitcher who is 15 and who takes part in a Young Co-Operatives group at her school. Also taking part in the discussion is Felicity Smith who is a Business Studies teacher at the Heritage School in Chester-le-Street, where Aimee is a pupil.
INTERVIEW WITH DAVID PRESCOTT
David Prescott is a 16 yr old GCSE student who wrote to the programme about a recent Learning Curve item on changing the English curriculum. Libby gets his views on how English teaching should change.
BLACK ACADEMICS IN THE UK
Is there a problem with institutional racism in UK Universities? Are black people fairly represented in teaching posts? To discuss these issues, Libby Purves is joined by Cecile Wright, Professor of Sociology at Nottingham Trent University and Paul Cottrell, Assistant General Secretary of the Association of University Teachers (AUT).
