ENGLISH 21
A new shake up in English lessons is being planned by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA). The QCA have decided to start from scratch and look at how English is taught to the range of children from 3-19 years old.

To discuss this Libby Purves is joined by Booker prize chair Professor John Sutherland, and King's College's Dr Bethan Marshall. Also with them is Sue Horner who's responsible for the English curriculum at the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority.

FURTHER EDUCATION -THE NEGLECTED SECTOR
Further Education has long been called the Cinderella sector by those who work in it and because of the way the FE is funded. Courses for students and pay for lecturers are the issues at the forefront of current campaigns. In addition some teachers in FE will be on strike later this week.

To set the scene first we hear from Roma Arnott who is the local chair of NATFHE at the Royal Forest of Dean College in Gloucestershire, a college for 16-19's and adults. She describes the college and explains why the way FE is funded has resulted in a crisis and 21 job losses. at her institution.

To discuss the Further Education sector Libby Purves will be joined by Norman Lucas, an expert on the Further Education sector at the Institute of Education and Dorothy Jones, Principal of Southwark College in South London and President of the Association of College Management.

The Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Skills and Vocational Education, Ivan Lewis who has been listening to the discussion of FE offers his views after the discussion.
