QUEEN'S SPEECH
Libby Purves talks to Mike Baker, the BBC Education Correspondent on the future of education and the government's proposals outlined in the Queen's Speech.
UNIVERSITY BRANDING
The forthcoming top up fees are set to impact on the existing competition between universities to attract new students. Many are already choosing to re-brand and enhance their marketing operations.
To discuss the possible pitfalls and advantages of this new emphasis on branding and marketing Libby Purves is joined by Professor Steven Schwartz, Vice-Chancellor, Brunel University and author of a report Fair admissions to higher education: recommendations for good practice and Sue Primmer, Director of Communications at Birmingham University.
PRISON EDUCATION and LONG DISTANCE LEARNING
The Forum on Prisoner Education runs the Prisoner Education Award, in which prisoners are asked to nominate a tutor who goes the extra mile. This year's first winner is Jan Jarvis, a creative writing tutor who has taught at HMP Whatton in Nottingham and was nominated by one of her students, Diesel. Libby Purves is joined by Jan Jarvis and Diesel.
Steve Taylor, director of the Forum on Prisoner Education explains the importance of the award.
Emma Hughes, lecturer in the Criminal Justice Department at the University of Central England and Steve Taylor consider the importance of distance learning to prisoner education and look at how it can meet the varying educational needs of prisoners.

A newly published two-year study of eighty British-Chinese boys and girls, thirty parents and thirty teachers has highlighted that pupils of a Chinese background are the highest achieving ethnic group in British schools. The research was conducted by Dr Becky Francis and Dr Louise Archer, of London Metropolitan University.
Libby Purves discusses the role of culture in educational achievements with Dr Louise Archer, Senior Researcher at London Metropolitan University and Yen, a young successful professional woman from a Chinese ethnic background.
