GUIDE DOGS GLASGOW AIRPORT
The relaxation of the quarantine laws so that guide dog owners with the correct medical certification would be allowed to take their dogs in and out of the country was welcomed by most people as an important advance. There seems to be many rules and regulations attached to this and those regulations can often lead to what seem like ludicrous situations. Take the case of Jim Mowat, who has to take a major round trip when he flies to Spain where he has a house, because he can't bring his dog back into his hometown airport of Glasgow. He told BBC reporter Ian Hamilton more about the problems he faces.

Peter White speaks to Guide Dogs for the Blind Association's Director of Policy, Tom Pey, and to Tom Morrison, the spokesperson for Glasgow Airport.

MANI DJAZMI'S NEWSDESK

VIP On Air
This is the internet radio station run by visually impaired people for visually impaired people. It has just applied to become a community radio station, but it's having trouble with the definition of "community". As far as the regulating body, Offcom, is concerned, "community" refers to local area, rather than a community of interest for instance, and it may not grant them a licence. Mani Djazmi talks to VIP On Air's Station Manager, Kerryn Krige.

Bristol University Insight into Employment
Bristol University is running another Insight into Employment course for visually impaired graduates. Some of the topics being covered include confidence and assertiveness, finding and applying for jobs and getting support in the work place. Students will also have the chance to compare notes and experiences with each other. Mani talks to Paul Sulllivan from Bristol University. Selection day is April the 8th and the course itself is free.

Association of Blind Piano Tuners
It's the 50th anniversary of the Association of Blind Piano Tuners this May. Piano tuning often comes in for a lot of stick among visually impaired people. Some of us see it as being a bit old fashioned or stereotypical. The association's Chairman, Richard Foster, tells Mani it's not only a worthwhile career, but one which requires a lot of hard work.

WORLD'S FIRST MOBILE PHONE FOR BLIND PEOPLE
Mobile Phones have made huge strides in the past few years when it comes to being accessible to visually impaired people. Phones with the so-called Talx software, which add speech to their features, have become very popular. Tony Shearman joins Peter White to tell him about the Owasys 22C, the world's first mobile phone designed specifically for blind people.

RNIB is selling the Owasys 22C for £299 (The supply of this product is zero rated for VAT purposes, ie you won't have to pay VAT, if you are a blind or partially sighted person). It is supplied with a Vodafone Pay As You Talk SIM card, but can be used on any network, on a contract or as pay as you go. If you already have a mobile phone it may be possible for you to use your current SIM card.
