UK AUDIO NETWORK

Peter talked to Bill Teale, who has set up a website specifically for blind and visually impaired people. He gave up his job as a salesman two years ago to run the UK Audio Network, a website which can be used by visually impaired people without the need for a screen reader. It works on a similar basis to some telephone operating systems in that the user presses numbers to choose different options on the site. The site content is narrated by Bill.

PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION

Dave Kent visited Earth From The Air at the Natural History Museum, London. It features 160 photographs of the earth as seen from the air. Thirty of the photographs have been recreated in a tactile format to make them accessible to blind and visually impaired people. Black and white cellulose acetate and precision etching techniques have been used to present blind people with a very high level of detail. The series of images have large print and Braille narrative panels. The size of the photographs in the main exhibition make them accessible to partially sighted people. The exhibition is on until 31 October.
