JOSEPH CLARKE SCHOOL

The Joseph Clarke School for visually impaired children in the Waltham Forest Borough was a subject discussed on In Touch early this year. In that report, parents were fearful that the school might be closed. The Waltham Forest Borough council has now issued a letter in which they state, that their preferred option will be 'redesignation'. This would mean, the school remaining open as a centre of excellence for visually impaired children and also to other children with other special needs. Iain Duncan-Smith, leader of the opposition, in whose constituency the Joseph Clarke School for Visually Impaired and the Hawkswood School for Deaf Children are located, has secured an emergency debate on the subject of specialist schools. Peter White talks to Graham Moss is the director of school support services in the Borough of Waltham Forest. Mr Moss said that the future of the Joseph Clarke school will be decided in early autumn.
