Dr Carlo Petrini - founder of the Slow Food movement
The Food Programme looks at the impact of the Slow Food movement around the world. Set up in Italy two decades ago as a rallying cry against fast food and what its founders described as "fast life", it now has more than 80,000 members in 100 countries.
The non-profit organisation has managed to create a loose network of farmers, food producers, anti-globalisation activists, chefs and gastronomes. As well as setting up projects aimed at preserving traditional foods at risk of dying out the movement has become a powerful campaigning voice on a wide range of food issues. So what impact is it having in the UK? Simon Parkes finds out.
