Nigel Slater
Nigel Slater, the food writer and cook, and also the chair of the Food and Farming Awards judging panel, creates a four course dinner from produce provided by the finalists in the Best Producer category.
A classic British meal made from award winning ingredients is the stuff of this week’s Food Programme.

Nigel Slater, the food writer and cook, and also the chair of the Food and Farming Awards judging panel, creates a four course dinner from produce provided by the finalists in the Best Producer category.

Sheila Dillon visits Nigel Slater in his kitchen as he prepares Arbroath Smokies baked with cream and mustard; roast loin of venison with juniper berries and medlar sauce; Lord Derby and Suntan apple puree, followed by single Gloucester and Harefield cheese, with Court Pendu Plat and Ashmead’s Kernel apples.

There are interviews with the four finalists – the winner, Iain R. Spink(Arbroath Smokies,) on a windswept beach in Archmithy, Scotland; John and Nichola Fletcher (venison) at Reediehill Deer Farm, Auchtermuchty, Fife Scotland; Robin and June Small, (apples) in Charlton Orchards, Taunton, Somerset and Diana Smart and her son Rod,(cheese) in the Victorian dairy of Smarts Cheeses, Gloucestershire.
