Main hall at Gurdwara Sikh temple, Hounslow, Middlesex
Sheila Dillon discusses
Temple food.
This week we look at the food served in Hindu and Sikh temples.

We visit the Diwali celebrations at the Neasden Hindu Temple and see how the various foods (all vegetarian) are served and blessed by the gods.

We speak to one of the temple volunteers, Tarun Patel.

Historian Dr Mukharjee explains the symbolic significance that food plays in the Hindu religion.

Sheila Dillon is joined in the studio by food writer Mridula Baljekar who brought some sweets and a couple of curries to taste.

We visit the Sikh temple in Hounslow with Dr Indarjit Singh (editor of the Sikh Messenger and regular on Thought For The Day), where volunteers prepare the langaar (temple lunch) for worshippers and talk about the inclusive nature of the Sikh religion and how food is a way to bring people together
