Jacques Chirac may think we have the second worst food in Europe , but, as Simon Parkes has been finding out, the rest of the French population are discovering that British cuisine has more to offer than they thought.
Simon visits the Fromagerie Quatrehomme in Paris and meets up with Marie Quatrehomme and Jason Hinds from Neal's Yard Dairy to find out how British cheeses are going down in Paris .
Penny Holmes, wife of the British ambassador in Paris has written a recipe book of British dishes in French. She meets up with Simon at the food hall la Grande Epicerie on the Left Bank to look at the British produce on offer.
Helene Gedouin is the editorial director of Marabout, one of the biggest publishers of French cookery books. Simon meets her at the Librairie Gourmande, a bookshop for cooks in Paris .
Chris Wright is a Mancunian chef who owns and runs a bistro in Paris called Le Timbre. He tells Simon about the reaction he gets to his cooking from his French diners.
At the Lycee Belliard, a catering college in Paris , English teacher Madam Kedija Thiam and chef Alain Zam explain their attitude to British food, while the students cook apple crumble for Simon.
At the British Embassy Simon attends the Queen's Birthday Party to find out what the guests think of the British food on offer there. |
