OLD MAN ON A BIKE – THE SNOW TOURIST

This week’s guests:

Simon Gandolfi (now 75) was seventy three when he undertook a motorbike trip on a Honda 125 from Veracruz in Mexico to Tierra del Fuego in Argentina. Simon had suffered two heart attacks and also wished to discover for himself whether the people of South America fitted the stereotypes assigned to them as well as find out what they thought of the British. He first took a flight to the US then a bus down to Mexico where he purchased a small but rugged motorbike.

Simon then crisscrossed South America visiting Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina. In his book Old Man on a Bike, Simon recounts the joys of travelling with an open heart and mind and recounts the adventures he had and remembers the people he met.
